Winter Highland Weekend in Review!

Our very first Winter Highland Weekend was a resounding success! A total of 53 dancers and their families travelled from PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to take part in our workshop weekend and learn from our 4 fantastic guest instructors. Dancers had 2 full days of classes in highland technique, ballet for highland and musical theatre with Janice Macquarrie, Chantal Watt, Ellen Cameron and Eleanor Belton. On Saturday night, the College hosted a pizza party/ceilidh where the dancers could unwind from their busy day, relax and have fun. Dancers played "Highland Bingo", learned some social Scottish country dance sets, and had a "dance challenge" to our ceilidh band. One of the highlights of the weekend was the dancers' performances of Eleanor Belton's "Hairspray" and "Mary Poppins" musical theatre routines for the parents; the smiles couldn't have been bigger (check out the College of Piping's Facebook page for clips of these routines)! A big thank you goes out to the College of Piping parents who volunteered at this event, making lunches for the dancers, helping show our attendees around, setting up for our ceilidh and helping to clean up. We have received many comments about how much everyone enjoyed the event, and without our volunteers it would not have been such a huge success! We look forward to welcoming everyone back to The College for the 2nd Annual Winter Highland Weekend!

Celebrating Robbie Burns

Having never attended a Robbie Burns event until I started working at The College of Piping, I didn't know what to expect.  I'd heard what a wonderful event it was and what a showcase it was for the public to see how talented our faculty and students are and how everyone had so much fun.  Then I attended The College of Piping's Robbie Burns Fundraiser in 2015.  It was better than I'd heard.  The whole evening runs smoothly and flows well, from start to finish.  It is like a really big family celebration.  It is the celebration of Robbie Burns and his impact on not only the Scottish Culture, but society in general (he wrote Auld Lang Syne, amongst many others), but also a celebration of The College family and it's milestones over the past year.
We hope that you will join us at our Robbie Burns Fundraising Gala this year and be welcomed into our family for the evening!
Tickets are available through the office at The College of Piping 902-436-5377 or contact Sue at sue.mcgiveron@collegeofpiping.com

Happy 8th Anniversary, Chris Coleman!!

Today marks 8 years since Chris Coleman was welcomed into family that is The College of Piping.  His quick wit, big smile, dedication and hard work are just a few things that we love about Chris.  He is passionate about drumming, and it is reflected in the successes his students and drum corps achieve, not just on the competition field, but also weekly in the classroom and band practices.  We are blessed to have you as a part of The College family...thank you for all you do!
