That's A Wrap!

Step Dancers Performing at the 2015 Year End Recital

Well, at least for our regular teaching year!  The June 14th End of Year recital showed the hard work, dedication and practice that our talented students have put in this past year.  The feet were flying, the toes were tapping and the fingers nimble.  While Mother Nature wasn't the most co-operative, a great time was still had by all and our amphitheatre was at capacity with proud parents, siblings and supporters to witness all the fun.  A huge congratulations to all of our scholarship winners.  It shows that hard work does pay off!  A huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students.  Your support and appreciation means a lot to all of us at The College!  Keep your eyes peeled to the blog, our photo gallery (http://www.collegeofpiping.com/photogalleries.php) and our Excellence Award page (http://www.collegeofpiping.com/excellenceawards.php) for photos and award winners from the recital!

As we switch gears and head into our summer hours, The College would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers who came in throughout the winter and spent their evenings manning the phone and answering inquiries at the registration desk after the gift shop had closed for the day. Thank you to:  Patsy Martin, Laura MacKinnon, Sharon Moyse, Peggy Sobey, Barry MacLean, Shelley and Lindsay Rogers.  Your time and support means a lot to our students and staff at The College!  Thank you!

Highland Storm rehearsals are well underway!  Have you got your tickets yet?!  Did you know that you can order them from the comfort of your own home?  You can even purchase them while wearing your pajamas!  To order your tickets now, please follow this link: https://boxofficepei.com/venue/college-piping.  Here is a message from Highland Storm's director, the very talented Ryan MacNeil:

Hello Highland Storm fans!  Another season will soon be underway.  The grounds have been cleaned, the amphitheater has been put up and the pipes have been tuned!  Since October, our creative team have put together the best show to date.  A careful selection process has taken place to ensure the best possible show.  There is indeed an excitement from the cast like no other this year!  Highland storm has become a tradition for many of the friends and family of the college. Young, bright eyed students watch the show anticipating that someday they, too, will receive the opportunity to expand their talents.  Our cast not only takes part in the show, but they receive summer employment doing something they love. Many of them making friends that they will have forever.  This year's show will have the time honored traditions of the past and will feature songs from artists such as Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Flogging Molly and Loreena McKennitt...all with a Highland Storm Twist! So come watch the piping, fiddling, singing, and dancing with us for a Highland-Storm-level good time! Bring your family and friends... you won't be sorry!

Congratulations!

Heather Gravina (second from the left) receiving her new RG Hardie bagpipes from L-R:  Director of Education, James MacHattie, Executive Director, Karen Hatcher and Piping Instructor, Kylie MacHattie

The College is very fortunate in that we had a very special and generous donation in the form of a set RG Hardie Bagpipes.  The stipulation was that this particular set of pipes were to be given, and not loaned, to a deserving piping student.  The people who made this very generous donation are Hemant Srivastava and Maureen McSorley.  Maureen was a student at The College two summers ago and took lessons from our Director of Education, James MacHattie.  This set of pipes will be known as the McSorley bagpipes with the number of 2006.  The deserving piper who received this beautiful set of bagpipes was Heather Gravina.  Heather started three years ago and has impressed her instructors with her hard work, dedication and fantastic attitude.  Last year was her first year in the College's Grade 5 pipe band and this year sees her return as a member of the Grade 5 pipe corps.  She has her eyes set on joining the Grade 4 pipe band in the fall.  For more photos of Heather receiving her pipes and for more photos from Saturday's concert, please follow this link: http://www.collegeofpiping.com/photogalleries.php?id=5576f83cbb7ab.  All photos are courtesy of the extraordinarily talented photographer, Susan Topping.  Congratulations, Heather!

Block off the week of July 5th-10th!  There is a new piping and drumming school run in partnership between the The National Piping Centre of Scotland and the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada that week!  We will have a daily program which will cover all aspects of performance including practice routines, technique, musical expression, tuning and ensemble playing. Students will be taught in a small group of similar ability for 3-4 hours per day with workshops, recitals and practice time built in.  All levels of players are welcome! It won't be a week of all work and no play! As well as daily lessons and tuition there will be a range of other events on offer in the evenings.  To sign up for this incredible week long opportunity, please follow this link: http://www.thepipingcentre.co.uk/bagpipe-drumming-schools/p-e-i-summerside-2015/booking-form/. Executive Director, Karen Hatcher, Volunteer Extraordinaire, Patsy Martin and Director of Education, Jame MacHattie

We love to recognize those that have given so much time, dedication and support to The College. One very special person in particular is our dear friend, Patsy Martin.  She has been a part of the family for over 20 years:  always happy to help, never saying no, giving up her own time to come in for not only hours, but WEEKS!  She always has a smile on her face no matter what and we are so thankful for all that you do for us.  Our Director of Education, James MacHattie, wrote a beautiful piece for this lovely lady and our Grade 5 band presented her with, and played, the piece at our concert on Saturday.  We hope you forever play "Patsy Martin's March" in your heart, Patsy! Thank you!
