Happy May Long Weekend!

It finally feels like summer is approaching!  The weather has finally improved and bare legs in shorts have even been spotted at the College!  The ampitheatre roof has been put on, the stage is being prepared for Highland Storm and the Grade 4 band had their first outdoor practice of the year.  Summer is coming!  Are you ready?!

Did you know that the Highland and Step Dancing programs now have a Dance Parents Committee?!  The parent's committee was re-formed to support and enhance the Step and Highland programs.  This past Tuesday an executive for the committee was elected.  Those who are on the executive are:

Co-Chairs:  Merryman Porter and Cheri Mackenzie
Secretary:  Heather Ross
Treasurer:  Tracy MacDonald
Instructors:  Kearsney Smith and Samantha MacKinnon

The formation of this committee bodes very well for both of our dancing programs.

Come support the Grade 4 and 5 College Pipe Bands at Sobeys tomorrow!  The two bands are holding a barbecue to raise funds for their trip to the North American Championships in July.  Stop by between the hours of 9am and 12pm for a hotdog or hamburger or just to hear some great music performed by our talented students!

Congratulations are in order for Sarah Simpson.  Sarah and her partner won bronze at the National Science Fair in Toronto!  The College is super proud of this outstanding achievement!

It's that time of year again...

This is the time of year where life gets a little bit busier.  Life seems to suddenly speed up and before you know it, school is out and the summer season has begun.  For some of the College students it means that the competition season has started but for other students, it means the start of their summer holidays.  Whether you compete or not, the College is proud of each and every one of its students.

Speaking of proud...Congratulations to Kate Ross for qualifying for the Interprovincial team to represent Prince Edward Island (and the College, of course!) at this year's Canadian Interprovincial Championship.  Kate will be dancing in the 9 and Under Championship and the College is very proud of her wonderful achievement!  Check out the PEI representatives below (Kate is on the far right)!

Are you ready?!  Mother's Day is on Sunday and if you do not have the perfect gift yet, the College Pipe Bands can help you out!  For only $40 you can get your mom a rose and a tune played by a bagpiper.  Imagine how delighted she will be to have such a unique gift!  Call the College at 1-877-224-7473 to make sure your mom gets a Mother's Day she will never forget!

A unique competing opportunity is available for all bagpipers!  Bagpipelessons.com is running an online contest.  This contest is run by Jori Chisholm who is not only a top soloist but also plays with the six time world pipe band champions, Simon Fraser University.  Jori has a stellar list of judges lined up which also includes our very own Director of Education, James MacHattie!  For more information please follow this link:  http://bagpipelessons.blogspot.com/.
