Here we go again...

Due to the blizzardy weather, the safety of our students and staff, accessibility and the RCMP advising people to stay off of the roads, the College will be closed today. All classes and the grade two band practice have been cancelled. The College of Piping Pipe Band Gold Rush 50/50 draw will be postponed until tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your understanding as the safety of our volunteers is extremely important to us!

A great way to blow off some storm stayed energy is by coming to our Acadian Pub Night tomorrow evening! There are a limited number of tickets still available. It promises to be a great evening of toe-tapping, er, step dancing, fun!

Happy Hump Day!

Well, it's been a crazy weather day but the College is bustling with activity! Another storm is predicted for Thursday afternoon and into the evening, so please keep your eyes peeled to the blog, local media and our Facebook page for all of the latest College information!

Every year Dean MacDonald, a stalwart band member and volunteer extraordinaire, puts together a much anticipated video of College of Piping highlights. Dean outdoes himself every year and this year is no exception! Enjoy our year in review which is entitled "Marching to the Line". It's a look at what it takes to get a band from practice to "the line" in competition!  Follow this link for Dean's latest production:

Congratulations to Ten Strings and a Goat Skin for their Juno nomination! The College has had the privilege of having Ten Strings and a Goat Skin perform at our Summerside Highland Gathering beer tent and at a pipe band fundraiser! Well done, congratulations and good luck at the Junos! Here is a link to Ten Strings and a Goat Skin playing at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival last year. If you jump to the 23 minute mark they play a tune called the Lament for Buckles which was written for the deceased pet bunny of College of Piping grade two members Sarah Simpson and Sam Ramsay. It is quite a beautiful piece written for a special furry friend:

What an opportunity for a young piper and drummer in Northern Ireland! I remember wearing out my cassette tape from this original concert! It inspired this piper and years later when I stood on stage and played Journey to Skye with the 78th Frasers and Bill Livingstone, I had to choke back the tears. I can't imagine playing with them in this exciting re-enactment! For information to nominate deserving players in Northern Ireland, please follow this link:

The College is Open!

Well, the weather outside is frightful but that won't stop us from spreading the Celtic Arts love! All classes are on for this afternoon but Grade 4 band practice has been cancelled due to the expected slippery conditions later this evening.

Delayed Opening Today

Due to a cranky Old Man Winter, the College will be delayed in opening until noon.  Watch this space, local media and our Facebook page for further announcements should they be necessary.  Stay safe and keep warm by practicing!
