Finally Friday!

Well, it's been a wild week!  Old Man Winter has been pretty cranky to say the least.  Hopefully the days will start to get warmer and the snow will start to melt.  There are only 28 days until spring...not that I'm counting!

Fundscrip orders are due this Monday by 10am.  What is FundScrip?!  FundScrip is the simplest fundraiser ever!  You don’t need to buy things you won’t use, you buy gift cards from us for the places you shop or dine at on a regular basis.  Superstore, Sobeys, M & M Meats, gas stations, restaurants like Boston Pizza, Swiss Chalet, Subway and Starbucks.  Retailers like Indigo, Gap/Old Navy, Cineplex, Home Depot, Running Room and Shoppers Drug Mart, are also involved (just to name a few).  Instead of using your debit card to buy your groceries or gas, buy a gift card from us and you get a full value gift card, but you have just helped the College of Piping raise some much needed funds!  This can be done via our group orders or online and have it shipped to your mailbox.  The next group order is due on Monday, February 23rd by 10am.  The cards should then be at here by March 3rd. February Promotions are:  Roots – 14% (regular 10%), The Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic – 7% (regular 5%) and la Vie en Rose – 11% (regular 8%).  It doesn't seem like much on an individual basis, but if a lot of people purchase, it all adds up!  Please help support the College of Piping in this way, it really is the most pain free fundraiser ever!  For more information or to have forms emailed to you, please contact Sue McGiveron at 902-436-5377 or sue.mcgiveron@collegeofpiping.com.

Happy Hump Day!

Phew!  That was quite the storm!  My arms are still jellified from all that shovelling.  Let's hope that no more storms of that magnitude hit the island this winter.  This west coaster is missing the February flowers and cherry blossoms. Hopefully soon....!

Classes are on at The College today.  The highland competition class has been cancelled in Summerside and step classes in Cornwall have been cancelled as Chelsey is sick.  Grade 4 band practice is still on for tonight.  If you can't make your lesson, please let us know!  Please call or email your instructor to let them know you won't be at class.  An informed instructor is a happy one!

Cancellations for Tuesday, February 17th

Well...Due to a very crabby Old Man Winter, The College will be closed tomorrow (February 17th).  All classes and the Grade 5 pipe band practice are cancelled.  Please stay warm and stay safe!  A great way to stave off cabin fever is by practicing!

Friday, February 13, 2015

Happy Friday!

Well, we were spared snow this week but the weekend is a different story.  Please stay safe and warm if the prediction of this snow storm on Sunday is true!  A great way to stay warm is by practicing!

The College of Piping Pipe Bands will not play at the Caps game this Sunday (February 15th).  Due to the snow storm and the severity of it, we are cancelling our appearance.  We would rather our members stay safe at home than risk travelling in a blizzard.

Happy Hump Day!

Well, the forecast doesn't look great for the end of the week.  Old Man Winter must be in some sort of tizzy because the storms have been non-stop!  The good news is that classes have (so far) been uninterrupted this week.  Last week was a different story!  Whatever happens by week's end, please stay warm and safe!

Remember that on Monday, February 16th the College will be closed due to Islander Day.  There will be no classes in Summerside or Charlottetown.  A great way to keep the fingers and toes nimble on the day off is by practicing!

Happy Monday!

Mother Nature, Old Man Winter or however is in charge of the weather seems to be a in a good mood this week!  No storms (knock on wood) are scheduled and this means that classes will resume as normal.  Since it is still early February, I wouldn't pack away the storm chips quite yet!

Snow News Update

In addition to no classes or band practice at The College today and tonight, the 50/50 Gold Rush Draw will take place tomorrow afternoon instead of this evening.  We have postponed the draw due the inclement weather.  Most of the pick-ups have been done today except in our North shore locations when they will be picked up tomorrow when the road conditions improve.  We are putting the safety of our volunteers first.  Thank you very much for your understanding and co-operation, we really appreciate it!

More Snow News

Well, Old Man Winter is one grouchy fellow.  With yet another storm and the promise of worsening conditions, we are cancelling all classes today.  The College will be open until 5pm.  The Grade 2 band practice is also cancelled for this evening.  Please stay home and stay safe!  Practicing is a great way to keep your fingers and toes nimble in this wintry weather!

If the thought of another snowstorm has you longing for warmer weather, why not sign up for one of our summer schools? The College has an exciting announcement that we will be partnering with the National Piping Centre (Glasgow, Scotland) in July!  We will be running a piping and drumming school here at The College for a week in July, starting the afternoon of Sunday the 5th and finishing on Friday the 10th.  Instructors from Scotland, including the one and only Roddy MacLeod, Principal of the Piping Centre, will come to Summerside to join Chris, Kylie and James to create the teaching faculty.  There will be three classes per day, workshops and evening events.  Keep an eye on our website for registration details.  Registration will go through http://www.thepipingcentre.co.uk/bagpipe-drumming-schools/p-e-i-summerside-2015/ and should open very soon.  Pipers and drummers should not miss this privileged opportunity!

If piping and drumming isn't your choice area of study, why not sign up for a week of step or highland dance?  Not sure which one to choose?  Why not sign up for our Introduction to Dance Week (July 13-17)!  Students who register for the Introduction to Dance Week will be divided by age groups, and the size of each class depends on the number of registrants. Students will receive 1 hour of instruction per day if they sign up for one discipline, and 2 hours per day if they sign up for both Highland and Step introduction. Tuition fees are $100 for introduction to Highland or Step Dance or $180 for introduction to both Highland and Step Dance.  For regular summer weeks, students will receive 1 hour of intensive instruction per day in a very small group setting, as well as opportunities to learn from to and perform in the College's mini concerts in the Amphitheatre. Each class will officially perform a Friday mini concert for family members as well as our regular audience. Limited placements are available on a first come, first served basis.
