That's a wrap!

Well, at least for our regular teaching year!  The June 15th End of Year recital showed the hard work, dedication and practice that our talented students have put in this past year.  The feet were flying, the toes were tapping and the fingers nimble.  While Mother Nature wasn't the most co-operative, a great time was still had by all and our amphitheatre was at capacity with proud parents, siblings and supporters to witness all the fun.  A huge congratulations to all of our scholarship winners.  It shows that hard work does pay off! Please see below for all of the award winners (all photos are courtesy of Susan Topping).  A huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students.  Your support and appreciation means a lot to all of us at The College!

Mairi Brydon was the recipient of the Munro Family Award but was absent due to sickness so her dad, Carl Brydon, accepted the award on her behalf.

The Bill Barnett Award went to Jacey LeClair

The Ernest Shaw Memorial Award went to Carly MacKenzie

Student of the Year for Step Dancing went to Jacqueline Moase

Student of the Year for Highland Dancing went to two deserving dancers, Alysha Trenholm and Sherra Rogers

At Long Last CD Update!!!

Our new CD, "At Long Last" is now available on CD Baby and iTunes!!!  The release of the CD is in celebration of our 25th anniversary.  It's a unique project in that every performer on this album is either an instructor or student, or a cast member in The College's summer production Highland Storm.  The album also has original tracks that you won't find anywhere else and are performed by their composers.  How cool is that?!  This recording truly reflects our mandate which is "Inspiring excellence in Celtic performing arts through quality educational programming."  It is also available in our gift shop.  Get your copy NOW!!!

Celtic Idol 2014!

2013 Celtic Idol Winners:  Devin Paynter, Sam Ramsay and Nick vanOuwerkerk.  Award presented by Boomer Gallant.  Photo by Susan Topping.

The Homecoming Summerside Highland Gathering is rapidly approaching as it is less than three weeks away!  Not long now before the backfield at The College is transformed into a Celtic spectacle.  There will be highland dancers, step dancers, the Ellis Family band, Rawlins Cross, massed pipes and drums, tug of war and much more!  We are also bringing back, by popular demand, Celtic Idol!  If the traditional competitions aren't your style, why not try your hand or foot at Celtic Idol?! You will have three and a half minutes to strut your Celtic stuff and then the audience and judges vote for the best performance.  Audience voting will cost $1.00 per vote (and you can vote as many times as you like...please keep in mind that it will cost you a $1.00 each time).  The winner of Celtic Idol will take home $500.00 and there is a most creative performance prize and the winner of that will take home $250.00.  To enter, please follow this link: http://www.collegeofpiping.com/pdfs/Celtic%20Idol%20Registration%20Form%202014.pdf. Good luck!

Thank You!

Well, Mother Nature was a wee bit cranky this past Saturday but that didn't deter bargain hunters and College band supporters.  A huge thank you to everyone who came out and purchased a new found treasure at the yard sale, had a hot dog lunch and then drove a Ford vehicle in the Ford Drive One 4UR School fundraiser.  It was a successful weekend and the bands couldn't have done it without the support of the community.  Thank you!

A huge congratulations to all of our step dancers who took part in the Kensington Step Dance Festival!  The College was well represented and our dancers should be very proud of their achievements. To find the results from this contest, please follow this link:  http://www.collegeofpiping.com/competitionresults.php. Well done!

Don't Forget!!!

Today the College is busy with activity.  The College's Pipe Bands have two fundraisers on the go!  The first one is a yard sale which is being held in the amphitheatre.  Someone else's junk is another man's treasure! The bands are also participating in the "Ford - Drive 4UR School" fundraiser. They are holding this between 9am - 4pm. Here is how this fundraiser works: Ford will supply the bands with 10 new vehicles. For every person that drives one of the supplied vehicles, Ford will donate $20.00 to the band (up to a maximum of 300 drives. ie: $6,000.00). **It is important to know that the donation comes from Ford, not the individual doing the test drive. The rules state that it needs to be 1 driver (over the age of 18) per household.  In order for them to reach the goal of 300 drives, it will take a considerable amount of organizing. They will be sectioning off the day into 3 different time slots (9:00am - 11:00am; 11:00am - 1:00pm; 1:00pm - 4:00pm). The bands hope to get 100 short drives in per time slot.  This is an easy way for friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. to support the band simply by driving a shiny new car.  Of course if you don't want to be tied to an exact time, potential drivers can drop-in throughout the day and test drive a vehicle.  Here is the information:

Location: Parking lot next to The College
Time slots to sign up for:
9:00am - 11:00am
11:00am - 1:00pm
1:00pm - 4:00pm

As always, thank you to all of you for your time and support!

Happy June!

May went out like a lion and so far (knock on wood) June is coming in like a lamb!  The sun is shining, the temperatures are warm and the baby foxes are bounding around in the backfield.  Summer is almost here! June is going to be a busy, busy, busy month at The College.  The Highland Gathering, Highland Storm, fundraisers and practices.  Next week is the last week of classes and the year end recital is almost upon us. Where has the time gone?!

The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada was featured in the May 30th edition of the Journal Pioneer on the weekend.  The College is celebrating a huge milestone this year and we hope the community and our alumni come out and help us celebrate 25 years at our Homecoming Summerside Highland Gathering on June 27th-June 29th.  To read the article, please follow this link:  http://www.journalpioneer.com/News/Local/2014-05-30/article-3744745/College-of-Piping-celebrates-25-years/1.

The College’s Pipe Bands will be once again holding a Yard Sale on Saturday June 7th.  If you are doing a purge while spring cleaning, or have a box in the basement you haven’t opened since you bought your house, please set items aside that you think could sell and help the bands meet their fundraising goals.  The pipe bands are now accepting items only during the following hours:  7pm-9pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Fridays during College business hours (9am– 5pm).  They are not accepting any baby items (cribs, car seats, baby gates and toys) or electronics (computer monitors, televisions, laptops and printers).  Come to the sale in for new hidden treasures!

This year, The College of Piping Pipe Bands have the opportunity to participate in the "Ford - Drive 4UR School" fundraiser. They will be holding this between 9am - 4pm on June 7th, the same day as their yard sale. Chris Coleman will be keeping a list of names for each time slot, so please email him at chris.coleman@collegeofpiping.com if you are interested, along with your preferred time.  Of course if you don't want to be tied to an exact time, potential drivers can drop-in throughout the day and test drive a vehicle.  Here is the information:
